This is the 8th edition of the Stav Church Christmas Ornaments and features the Hopperstad Stav Church in Sogn, Norway, built in 1130. It is the second oldest of the five Sogn Stav churches, and based on a large 16 column triple nave design.

The Hopperstad church was abandoned roughly 700 years after it was first built and was in very poor condition until noted architect Peter Blix rescued the church from demolition and began a restoration project to bring it back to its former glory.

The Hopperstad church contains an architectural rarity in Norway--an elaborately carved and painted altar canopy, known as a Baldichin. It contains the faces of Christ, the king, the queen and a priest with eight painted panels depicting the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary.

Each Limited Edition Ornament is made on a 2.5" flat porcelain disk and hand decorated in delicate Scandinavian Blue and White.
