Details:

A reinterpretation of the famous Sotra sweater, recognizable by a repeating pattern of eight-petal roses. This lightweight wool sweater is has a relaxed fit with dropped shoulders and a boxy silhouette. Knitted in 100% fine Norwegian wool. The fibers are short, producing a finer and softer yarn. The outcome is thin, light and soft garments, that maintain the brilliance, crimp and longevity for which Norwegian wool is world renowned. Norwegian wool is one of the world’s most animal-friendly textile fibers, due to the sheep’s natural mountain life. Dale of Norway's Norwegian wool comes from sheep known for roaming freely in the vast Norwegian hillsides while grazing in natural pastures. To make it machine washable the Heron yarn undergoes a revolutionary new wool treatment using natural non-toxic salts. Machine wash using wool-cycle. (Fiber diameter: 30.5 micron)

Design Notes:

The Sotra sweater was part of the Dale of Norway collection in the early 90's. Now it is making a comeback in an updated version, with a young, wide and modern fit. Bjorøy is a small island in the same archipelago as Sotra. The original Sotra sweater comes from the Sotra island, west of Bergen, exposed to the harsh weather from the North Sea. On this island a variation of the eight-petal rose pattern emerged: The roses are separated by diagonal lines on a contrasting background, giving us an intricate geometrical pattern. It is believed that the eight-petal rose came to the island around 1850, introduced by traders and sailors from the Hardanger region. The Sotra sweater was most likely worn at celebrations and special occasions only.
