The twenty-seventh edition of the Norwegian Stav Christmas Ornament features the Kvernes church. This church is located on a quiet Norwegian fjord near Kristiansund, south of Trondheim. The original church dates back to 1200.
There have been numerous reconstructions and extensions of the church over the years. The roof became so expansive that external diagonal props probably had to be attached on the southern exterior.
The church has a rich inventory, including a hanging ship, baroque altar pieces and a Danish Norwegian Banner. In the entry is a fascinating painting of the church being rebuilt in the 1600s. It details a frame and windows which probably were changed at a later date but note the transition to another rebuild nonetheless.
